Rolling In The Deep {Muskegon Photographer-Unique Keys}

March 14, 2011

As you can see I was listening to the new Adele CD. This CD has brought some power to me in a way that I don’t think that I couldn’t have found on my own.

Lately, I have been thinking a lot about things. Things that really shouldn’t matter all that much, and people that shouldn’t matter in my life at all. Go ahead and read into it however you want, I doubt that the real answer will be yours. But as to save on room on this blog post.

{Side-note}Have you noticed that I tend to be quiet long winded? Yeah, that is really me in a nutshell. Long winded. Anyway. I don’t clam to be spectacular at blogging, but I have been told that I do have a thing for writing.

Anyway, getting back to the real reason I’m writing this post. I have have some time to think about things and I have come out stronger than I was before. I have even written something that helped me quiet a bit.

I don’t have an iMac or anything apple, besides my iTouch. But I have a computer and I’m thankful for that, because not everyone has a computer.

I don’t have every photo editing software out there, but what I do have I make sure that I’m dare good at it, and that I know it inside and out.

I don’t have the  luxury of going to Grand Rapids or other far away places every single weekend, but that is what I to do if I want to save money for my future career.

I don’t take anything for granted. I life everyday to it’s fullest, and I try to be the best I can be that day. And when I lay my head down on the pillow at the end of the day, I know in my heart that I have no regrets for that day that I just lived.

I will not obsess about whether people “like” me on Facebook, I have better things to do then to obsess about things that are very trivial.

I’m not one of those people that will bug you all the time, either electronically or in person, about “liking” me on Facebook.

I’m not going to one of those art schools, I’m going to a university where I will learn something to advance my career. I’m going to school to learn the art of photography and art history, nothing else. That is what my brain was programed to do.*

I want to be a photographer, because of the joy I can bring people. From one picture that I take, that one picture can generate 100 smiles from people that enjoy it. I’m in the business to make people smile and enjoy life through a photograph. I’m really not in it for the money. Yes, I do charge when people hire me, but that is because they hired me. All I want to achieve from my photography is to be someone that will make people smile on their wedding day, when they are having their maternity pictures taken, etc. When people are feeling their lowest and looking at a photograph brings back a long forgotten happy memory that makes them smile again. That is what photography is to me, to make people smile again. To many people don’t smile these days, except when they get paid. I want to make people smile even if they have everything to lose.

*I took these self-potraits to prove that you don’t need to be 5’10 and 100 pounds to be a model. And I also took them to help people who think that their bodies are ugly to not think that. Everybody’s bodies are perfect the way they are. We need more self-love around the world. Just think of that Lady Gaga song, “Born This Way”, that is what it is telling everyone. That you are perfect just the way that you are.

*Quick side-note: I’m not saying that going to school for something else besides photography is bad. No, I’m not saying that. All I wanted to say is that I’m not going to jump from school to school just because I didn’t like the school, grades, teachers, or I found something better. When I find something I stick to it until the end. I’m far from a quitter. I will, in the words of Justin Beaver, “I will never say never”.

That is what I said to myself one night when I was in my room lying awake in my bed, wondering about life and where I will be in the next fife years; and how I want to get there. I just stared up at my bedroom ceiling and thought, and then I came up with a plan. I’m not going to tell the whole world my plan, because that is for only me and my closets friends to know and for people to watch and see.

Well I that is all that I had to say, spilling my feelings in a blog, I had already told just about everyone that I knew already. So then the only other place left to tell is the people that read this blog.

Just a Quick Post | Unique Keys Photography {Talking}

January 23, 2011

I just wanted to tell everyone about what I’m doing with my business. Well I’m not going to tell you to much, but enough to get everyone excited.

I’m getting a new {semi-permit} logo. {A picture of that will be up soon. :D}

I’m redoing my blog, a new layout and such.

And much more. But just remember that even though I’m changing a few things, that doesn’t mean that the way that I shoot will change. That will always stay the same, no matter what anyone else thinks. {Unless it’s a client, then I will change it for them.}

Welcoming in 2011

January 5, 2011

Since I have been way behind on my blog, I have missed quiet a few posts. I will make this one a type of Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years post. I’m just going to ramble on for awhile, cause well I want to. Ok, here it goes.

What I’m thankful for…

*For my health

*My family

*My boyfriend

*My talent

*All my amazing friends and clients.

*And basically all of the people that have stuck by me through thick and thin. I take nothing for granted and I live each and every day like it is my last. Even if some of those days are just sitting around on the sofa with my boyfriend watching movies. Or him sitting there quietly watching me edit a session or two.

Now the Christmas one…

Well I don’t really know what to do with this one. I had a very good Christmas, as was to be expected. I got some pretty amazing gifts from my boyfriend. He gave me things that had camera’s on them {that is one of the reasons I love him so much}. Earrings, necklace, and a coin/club purse that had all different kinds of camera’s on it. I got a few gift cards and clothing from my parents. But I would have to say the most amazing experience I had was at my church. No really. People will tell you that I don’t what children (to much to worry about, and lets face it some of us ladies just are not meant for motherhood like others are). But as I was sitting there in the church I just couldn’t help but smile at the kids as Santa came walking in, and handed them candy canes and asked them what they wanted. It just made me smile, and I could see then why children photography is so popular. I just thought that it was sweet, and their smiles were so genuine, and it just reminded me of a Taylor Swift song. Yes, I’m quit cheesy as of right now, but that is ok.

But I would have to say that the most beautiful thing about Christmas is the music. I love to be in the church just singing carols. To me it just beings you closer to God. And for that I’m grateful, because until a few years ago I wasn’t that close to God. But then I found him. And I credit that to photography and my boyfriend, Patrick, he helped me find God.

Now the New Years Resolutions.

Every year I have many resolutions, but I can’t seem to finish them which is really sad. But this year I’m determined to finish at least one.

My new year’s resolutions {for photography} are as follows…

*To start a project, mostly personal, and finish it fully. {Like the 365 Project}. {Follow me on Flickr, to see my 365 project from day to day.}

*Expand my knowledge of photography and the post-processing.

*To not be stressed out so much about things, that I can’t control. {Because I know that everything will be ok in the end}

*To trust in my instincts.

{There are many more, but I would rather keep those under wraps. Wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise for everyone, now would I?}

But now on to my favorite pictures that I took in 2010. There are not going to many, but there will be enough. But first I would like to thank everyone who allowed me to photograph them this year. Follow me on Facebook, if you are not already. I would be nowhere without the support from my friends and family. They are everything to me and I couldn’t ask for a better support system.

Week {1-7} of {52}

December 1, 2010
tags:

Week one was all about a free for all. This is just an introduction to my photography, and how I do things. FYI: The last two pictures are of my uncle and aunts cat Copper. He is like a dog, and he is so fluffy.

Week {2} This week was all about introducing yourself to your public. For this I went to Grand Rapids and let my boyfriend have a crack with my camera. He didn’t do a bad job, for someone that is an amateur.

Week {3} This week was all about showing everyone my hometown. Well my hometown is nothing special. All there really is, are train tracks, abandon buildings, and lots of traffic lights. And in the wintertime, it gets even worse, then there is truly nothing to do, but to sit and watch movies and to take pictures. Then again I can’t really say that because there is always outdoor activities, which I do a lot of.

Typical sunset in Muskegon in the fall, it is very beautiful. This is why it’s my second favorite time of year. 😀 Also SOOC! Except for the text.

This is a billboard in the abandoned warehouse district in Muskegon. It was a really foggy night and I was driving back from college. Notice the single light in the background on in the building. Amazing 😀

And like I said, lots of traffic lights. I was driving home, this was the same night as the sunset pictures above. I could show you more pictures of my hometown but that would a whole other blog.

Week {4} This week is about water. For this I look a picture of my uncle and aunt’s frozen bird bath. It was pretty sweet.

Week {5} This week is of sports.

Week {6} This week is for botanical. I look a picture of a iron lattes work. Where everything was just dying in their yard, but I still found the beauty in it.
